New Build Residential Development

We were asked to look at improving the natural soils on this housing development near to Bristol City Centre after the clients engineers had specified the technique within the design. Working with both our customer Willmott Dixon and their groundworks contractor G:Works, we were able to offer a proposal to carry out the modification works to the adoptable site roads and the piling mats, over three separate phases.

In all cases, the base of the fill area was modified and tested to achieve 5% CBR insitu and then fill material was excavated by our team from stockpile and placed in layers for follow on stabilisation and compaction to 15% CBR, proven through site testing.

The alternative to stabilisation would have resulted in around 1,000 lorry movements on and off site to dispose of the poor material and replace with aggregate.

This project had difficult access through the city and the neighbouring residential streets but working together with all stakeholders including our customer and our suppliers, we were able to deliver the project successfully, and, importantly for Willmott Dixon and their client, Bristol City Council – Sustainably.
